Description For General LAB Support Hardware Engineer

Microsoft's Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a General LAB Support Hardware Engineer to join their dynamic organization. This role is crucial in supporting Microsoft's extensive cloud infrastructure that powers over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced R&D Lab environment, where you'll be responsible for supporting various hardware infrastructure, server systems, and liquid cooling solutions. You'll be working with both first and third-party designs, ensuring optimal lab operations while scaling space, capacity, and capability.

As a Hardware Engineer, you'll be involved in critical tasks such as managing server racks, network connections, infrastructure maintenance, and OS/Firmware updates. The role requires strong technical expertise in Linux operations, scripting languages, and hardware troubleshooting. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor other technicians and contribute to cross-functional programs.

Responsibilities For General LAB Support Hardware Engineer

  • Support hardware, racks, networks, infrastructure, racking systems, and power distribution
  • Support server racks, network connections, and infrastructure problems
  • Manage OS updates and Firmware upgrades
  • Support liquid cooling solutions and monitoring
  • Maintain awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Mentor and support training of other technicians
  • Develop understanding of cross-functional programs processes

Requirements For General LAB Support Hardware Engineer

Linux
  • 5+ years of technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years experience OR Master's degree in related field
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Experience with Linux command line operations and scripting languages
  • Familiarity with core routing, switching functions and LAN technologies
  • Experience with system hardware troubleshooting
  • Experience with lab test equipment and reading schematic diagrams
