Description For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

Microsoft's Azure Fiber team is seeking a Principal Cloud Network Engineer to lead the strategic expansion and operational excellence of their global optical network infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of cloud computing and AI innovation, focusing on the design, buildout, and operations of Microsoft's Global Optical Network.

The position involves leading the development and implementation of a global change management framework for both solid core and hollow core fiber networks. You'll be responsible for integrating cutting-edge AI-based network management software to ensure the highest quality dark fiber assets. This role is crucial as Azure Fiber prepares for exponential growth driven by continued Cloud success and new Artificial Intelligence (AI) demands.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll work with state-of-the-art technology, including Hollow Core Fiber (HCF) and traditional fiber infrastructure that supports critical Microsoft services like Azure, Teams, Xbox, Office, Bing, and OpenAI's ChatGPT. The role offers an exciting opportunity to impact Microsoft's global infrastructure while working with emerging technologies in AI and network management.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $137,600 to $267,000 per year (higher in SF and NYC areas), along with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. Requirements For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

  • 9+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
  • Bachelor's/Master's/Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in network planning, operations, or design and engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in mission critical environment
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
