Description For Principal Firmware Security Engineer

Microsoft's Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a Principal Firmware Security Engineer to join their mission of powering Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud infrastructure. This role is crucial in developing and securing the foundational technologies that support Microsoft's vast array of online services, including Azure, Office 365, and Xbox Live.

As a Principal Firmware Security Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing firmware solutions for Platform and Intrinsic Root of Trust, working with cutting-edge security technologies and confidential compute requirements for Azure. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced SoC architectures and contribute to Microsoft's cloud infrastructure security.

The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of firmware development experience, with strong expertise in C, C++, and Assembly programming. Experience with FIPS certification, Platform Root of Trust solutions, and security development lifecycle methodologies is highly valued. This role offers competitive compensation ranging from $137,600 to $267,000 annually (higher in SF and NYC areas), along with comprehensive benefits.

You'll be working in a hybrid environment with up to 50% work from home flexibility, collaborating with cross-functional teams both internally and externally. Responsibilities For Principal Firmware Security Engineer

  • Bring new perspectives to improve security capabilities of trusted platform with customer focus
  • Support firmware development for Platform and Intrinsic Root of Trust
  • Lead design and integration of firmware functionality for Hardware Abstraction Layer capabilities
  • Implement new features, debug issues, and implement fixes for platform root of trust systems
  • Collaborate with teams across Microsoft and external partners
  • Contribute to Dev-Ops support maintaining high reliability of Cloud Services
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to colleagues

Requirements For Principal Firmware Security Engineer

Rust
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 6+ years of firmware design and development experience
  • 6+ years of experience developing software using C, C++, Assembly
  • Working knowledge on firmware SoC drivers' development
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
