Description For Principal Firmware Validation Engineer

Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is seeking a Principal Firmware Validation Engineer to join their team responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. The role involves working on cutting-edge technology for server, silicon, and rack infrastructure, focusing on firmware technology to secure Azure infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in System on Chip Architecture (SoC), bring-up of SoC, and root causing issues at the intersection of multiple subsystems across firmware and hardware.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Involvement in all phases of product development from pre-silicon to platform deployment in the datacenter
  • Collaboration with architects, firmware teams, and program management
  • Driving and executing firmware integration and validation test plans
  • Architecting and implementing test content and frameworks
  • Mentoring and guiding team members
  • Coordinating integration, validation, and debugging of system software
  • Improving test coverage, release automation, and efficiency of firmware releases

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in large-scale system design, architecture, development, and testing
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Programming experience in Python, C, or C++
  • Experience with platform initialization, UEFI/U-Boot, and low-level drivers

Responsibilities For Principal Firmware Validation Engineer

  • Involvement in all phases of product development including pre-silicon, post-silicon, and platform deployment in the datacenter
  • Drive, define, implement, and lead execution of firmware integration and validation test plans
  • Architect and/or submit requirements to define stimulus, test content, and frameworks for testing
  • Mentor, guide, and help peers and other team members
  • Coordinate integration, validation, and debugging of system software
  • Create automated dashboards to reflect system health and quality
  • Improve test coverage, release/test automation, and efficiency of firmware releases

Requirements For Principal Firmware Validation Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or similar
  • 15+ years of working experience in large scale system design & architecture, development, testing, and release and performance tuning
  • Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Hands on experience in programming in Python or C or C++
  • Experience with Platform initialization, Board support package (UEFI/U-Boot), integration, low level drivers for peripherals
  • Demonstrated experience of leading big initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations
