Description For Principal Quantum Hardware Engineer

Microsoft's Quantum division is seeking a Principal Quantum Hardware Engineer to drive forward their mission of creating advanced quantum computing platforms. This role sits at the intersection of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum information technology. The position involves leading key experimental milestone integration points crucial for developing useful quantum computers.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in quantum information technology, ranging from qubit design to fast qubit measurement and full-stack quantum computer demonstrations. You'll work in a dynamic environment bridging the gap between hardware engineers developing various types of qubits (topological, semiconductor, superconducting) and teams focused on architecture, software, and systems integration.

As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you'll be responsible for demonstrating dramatic improvements to future quantum computers in integrated systems. The role involves close collaboration with talented hardware and software engineers both within Microsoft and with partner companies in the Microsoft Quantum accelerator platform. The position offers the excitement of a startup-like environment while backed by Microsoft's resources and expertise.

Key responsibilities include leading development roadmaps, providing technical leadership on device development, engaging with partners, and maintaining expert knowledge to influence product decisions. You'll need to be comfortable with extensive travel (25-50%) and working across multiple geographical locations.

The role offers competitive compensation ($137,600 - $267,000 base salary range) and comprehensive benefits including healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. This is an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of quantum computing development while working with world-class teams and resources at Microsoft.
