Description For Principal Software Engineer

Join Microsoft's COSMIC team (Containers on Substrate-Managed Intelligent Clusters) as a Principal Software Engineer to help build a global-scale, Kubernetes-based service platform powering Microsoft's productivity workloads. This strategic initiative aims to modernize compute platforms and improve agility, security, compliance, and COGS of services in the Experience and Devices division.

You'll work with cutting-edge technology to deliver high-quality solutions, leading a team of talented engineers while focusing on node functions for Windows and Linux OS's. The role involves identifying gaps and developing strategies for common OS solutions in provisioning, monitoring, and auto-remediation.

As part of the M365 Substrate Core organization, you'll collaborate with multiple teams across Microsoft, working extensively with Azure technologies and industry-standard open source tools like Kubernetes. Your work will have significant impact on hundreds of critical Microsoft services running on the COSMIC platform.

The position offers flexible work arrangements with the option to work fully remotely. You'll be joining a company culture that values growth mindset, innovation, and collaboration, working on a platform that standardizes service delivery and builds a modern Kubernetes-based compute fabric with turn-key geo-presence, security, and high availability.

The role offers competitive compensation with a base salary range of $137,600 - $267,000 USD (higher in SF Bay Area and NYC), along with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers passionate about cloud infrastructure and distributed systems to make a lasting impact at Microsoft.
