Description For Senior Hardware Engineer

Microsoft's Silicon Engineering Solutions and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join their Azure Memory and Storage Center of Excellence (AMS COE). This role is critical in powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission, supporting over 200 online businesses including Azure, Bing, Office 365, and Xbox Live.

As an AMS COE Hardware Engineer, you'll be responsible for providing best-in-class support for Azure cloud servers, focusing on memory and storage solutions. You'll work with cutting-edge storage technologies including NVMe, SAS, and SATA protocols, while collaborating with a global team of hardware and software engineers.

The role combines hands-on technical work with strategic thinking, requiring expertise in hardware validation, firmware testing, and system debugging. You'll use advanced tools like PCIe Analyzers and Logic analyzers while developing automation solutions to enhance testing processes.

Responsibilities For Senior Hardware Engineer

  • Understand storage specifications and develop test plans for validating storage components
  • Develop test cases and prototypes and document test requirements
  • Implement and deploy tests to replicate failures from fleet
  • Validate firmware across multiple phases from suppliers
  • Participate in firmware signing via ESRP and AKV
  • Address bugs and coordinate with suppliers and ODMs
  • Develop automation tools and scripts
  • Support Fleet ICM debugging and resolution

Requirements For Senior Hardware Engineer

Python
Linux
  • B.S./M.S. degree in Computer Sciences or Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Understanding of storage protocols (NVMe, SAS, SATA)
  • Proven software and script development skills: C/C++ Programming, Python Scripting
  • Experience with HDD validation, HBA, Expander, PCIe Switch, performance testing
  • Debugging skills with PCIe Analyzers, Logic analyzers, Oscilloscopes
  • Familiar with lab test setups and hardware
  • 8+ years of memory/storage industry or enterprise/cloud server experience
