Description For Senior Hardware Engineer

Microsoft's Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join their innovative cloud infrastructure division. This role is central to Microsoft's expanding cloud infrastructure, supporting over 200 online businesses including Azure, Office 365, Xbox Live, and Teams.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge hardware design in a highly collaborative environment. You'll be responsible for leading VR design of AI hardware, working with both internal and external partners to define and implement power requirements for next-generation cloud systems. The role combines technical expertise in hardware engineering with strategic thinking about cost, time, and risk management.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in multiphase buck & PDN design, VR validation, and power modeling, along with a proven track record of collaboration with silicon and packaging teams. You'll be working in a hybrid environment, with up to 50% work from home flexibility, and will be part of a team that values culture, mentorship, and unified teamwork.

Responsibilities For Senior Hardware Engineer

  • Lead VR design of AI hardware
  • Define and specify HW power requirements
  • Perform & review Schematic Entry in Cadence tools
  • Review and guide PCB Layout for high-speed designs
  • Support BOM Creation & Manufacturing requirements
  • Create bring-up, test and validation plans
  • Execute bring-up tests and debug hardware reports
  • Collaborate with partners for cloud environment requirements
  • Work with ODM/OEM companies

Requirements For Senior Hardware Engineer

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience OR relevant degree combinations
  • 5+ years of Multiphase buck & PDN design experience
  • 5+ years experience developing VR validation plans
  • 5+ years power modeling experience
  • 5+ years of collaboration with silicon & packaging power team
  • Experience with Cadence EDA tools
  • Experience with high volume hardware production
  • Experience with cost/time/risk tradeoff analysis
  • Experience with bleeding edge hardware design
  • Experience working with ODM
