Description For Senior Mechanical Engineer - Datacenter Engineering

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Datacenter Engineering team. This role is crucial in developing Microsoft's industry-leading datacenter designs in the AMERICAS region. The position offers a competitive salary range of $117,200 - $229,200 and allows for hybrid work arrangements with up to 50% remote work capability.

The ideal candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in mechanical engineering, focusing on datacenter HVAC cooling systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems. They will be responsible for directing design decisions, reviewing construction drawings, and managing external design consultants. The role requires a strong technical background with at least 4 years of experience and professional engineering licensure.

Responsibilities For Senior Mechanical Engineer - Datacenter Engineering

  • Direct design decisions related to datacenter projects including new construction, expansions, retrofits, and upgrades
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, design guides/standards
  • Engage with and manage external design consultants
  • Lead the delivery of mechanical system design for first-of-kind datacenter prototypes
  • Collaborate with Global Technical Governance team
  • Travel to sites for Factory Witness Testing and engineering audits

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Engineer - Datacenter Engineering

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 4+ years related technical engineering experience
  • Registered professional/Licensed Engineer
  • 3+ years of experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection engineering
  • 2+ years of experience working on design of large-scale datacenter projects
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
