Description For Senior Mechanical Engineer, Rack Design and Validation

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team focused on rack design and validation. This role is crucial in powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission and supporting over 200 online businesses including Azure, Office 365, Xbox Live, and more.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the design and validation of rack and infrastructure systems from concept to production. You'll utilize advanced CAD software and simulation tools to create and validate mechanical designs, working closely with ODM partners and multi-disciplinary teams. The role requires expertise in structural analysis, mechanical validation, and manufacturing processes.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $117,200 - $229,200 USD (higher in SF and NYC areas) and comes with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. Responsibilities For Senior Mechanical Engineer, Rack Design and Validation

  • Lead design of rack and infrastructure from concept to production
  • Design mechanical systems, components, and assemblies using CAD software
  • Create mechanical specifications and interface control documents
  • Conduct design reviews and develop test plans
  • Perform structural statics and dynamics simulations
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external vendors
  • Lead mechanical validation efforts for Microsoft mechanical designs
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Engineer, Rack Design and Validation

Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience
  • 4+ years of industry experience related to server components and systems design
  • 3+ years industry experience related to mechanical validation
  • 3+ years CAD (PTC Creo/Solidworks) and simulation tools experience
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, ANSI Y14.5 GD&T, Tolerance analysis
  • Experience with manufacturing processes
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
