Description For WAN Network Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovations Team (CO+I) is seeking a WAN Network Engineer to design and implement Microsoft's Corporate Network (CorpNet) within Microsoft's Datacenters. This role focuses on Wide Area Network (WAN) design, creating scalable and robust network solutions for Microsoft's global infrastructure. The position offers a competitive salary range of $94,600 - $183,800 USD (higher in SF and NYC areas) and includes comprehensive benefits.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in network engineering, with expertise in Cisco and HPE certifications. You'll work on designing and implementing WAN architectures, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the smooth operation of Microsoft's global network infrastructure. The role involves creating detailed network designs, managing hardware requirements, and maintaining comprehensive documentation.

This is a hybrid position with up to 50% work from home flexibility and requires 0-25% travel. Responsibilities For WAN Network Engineer

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define WAN, LAN and WLAN hardware requirements
  • Designing scalable and resilient WAN architectures
  • Developing comprehensive High-Level Network Designs (HLDs)
  • Creating detailed Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
  • Preparing Bill of Materials (BOMs)
  • Creating Network Design Template (NDT) and Patching Templates
  • Supporting Project Closeout activities
  • Updating and maintaining documentation
  • Contributing to the knowledge base

Requirements For WAN Network Engineer

Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
  • Currently hold at least one Cisco and/or HPE certification (CCNA, CCNP, HPE, ATP, etc.)
  • Detailed understanding of WAN protocols, topologies, and routing/switching technologies
  • Prior experience creating High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
  • Familiarity with network security principles and best practices
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Citizenship verification required
