This role serves as a crucial bridge between Nava, technical experts, external developers, and clients, focusing on driving strategy and architecture for FHIR-based software services within federal agencies. The position requires deep expertise in HL7/FHIR standards and healthcare technology, combining technical leadership with strategic thinking.
The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of experience in agile environments, strong healthcare industry knowledge, and expertise in API development using languages like Kotlin, Java, Python, or Ruby. They will be responsible for shaping product roadmaps, providing technical guidance, and ensuring effective implementation of FHIR standards.

Responsibilities For Principal Software Engineer - FHIR
- Working with software engineers in understanding FHIR objects and relationships
- Crafting long-term strategic roadmaps related to FHIR conformance
- Active work within the HL7 and related standards bodies
- Developing understanding of developer user space and needs
- Prototyping new features and tools
- Working with product, design, and engineering teams
- Reviewing and improving user documentation and technical plans
- Taking on software engineering tasks including building new features
Requirements For Principal Software Engineer - FHIR
- Current and/or prior experience developing API endpoints with Kotlin, Java, Python, Ruby, etc
- At least 6 years of experience working in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment
- Strong experience in the healthcare industry - HL7/FHIR expertise
- Experience utilizing Smart on FHIR standards to build healthcare applications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- May require U.S. citizenship or a green card
- May be subject to a government security investigation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented
