Description For Data Engineer (L5) - Security

Netflix, a global entertainment leader with 283 million subscribers across 190+ countries, is seeking a Data Engineer for their Security Data Engineering team. This role focuses on building data products to enhance security and fraud detection across customer accounts and internal systems. The position involves creating reliable data pipelines and intuitive data products using technologies like Spark, Presto, Flink, and Kafka.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of software/data engineering experience, with expertise in Java, Python, or Scala, and advanced SQL skills. They'll work on detecting and mitigating various types of fraud, including account takeovers and unauthorized access, requiring a comprehensive understanding of member activity patterns across multiple dimensions.

This is a remote position offering a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $720,000, along with comprehensive benefits including health plans, 401(k) matching, and stock options. The role provides an opportunity to work with a diverse team of data engineers while directly impacting the security posture of one of the world's largest streaming platforms.

Responsibilities For Data Engineer (L5) - Security

  • Engineer efficient, adaptable and scalable data pipelines to process structured and unstructured data
  • Develop a deep understanding of the security ecosystem at Netflix
  • Partner with the security engineering teams to understand product goals
  • Maintain and rethink existing datasets and pipelines
  • Enable smart analytics by building robust, reliable, and useful data sets
  • Build data products for detecting and mitigating various types of fraud

Requirements For Data Engineer (L5) - Security

  • Highly proficient in at least one of Java, Python or Scala with at least 7 years of software/data engineering experience
  • Advanced level SQL skills in a complex data environment
  • At least 5 years of experience in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies
  • Comfortable working cross functionally with multiple types of stakeholders groups
  • Able to successfully lead large, complex systems design and implementation challenges independently
  • Prior experience in the security and fraud space is strongly preferred
