Netflix, a global entertainment leader with 283 million subscribers, is seeking a Distributed Systems Engineer for their Cloud Infrastructure organization. This role is within the Compute Abstractions team, which is crucial in managing one of the largest Cloud footprints and enabling Netflix's massive scale operations.
The position offers an opportunity to work on internet-scale cloud infrastructure, focusing on increasing fleet-wide agility, efficiency, and reliability. You'll be responsible for building products that enable a "set it and forget it" approach to achieving scalability and cost efficiency, working with cutting-edge technologies including AWS and Kubernetes.
As a Staff Engineer (L5), you'll lead innovative solutions across functional teams, combining hands-on development with strategic thinking. The role requires expertise in complex distributed systems, backend services, and cloud technologies. You'll work closely with Product and Customers, design compute abstractions, mentor peers, and drive operational excellence.
The ideal candidate should have experience with large-scale infrastructure systems, proven ability to drive wide-scale changes affecting hundreds of engineers, and a track record of building user-friendly systems. Responsibilities For Distributed Systems Engineer (L5) - Compute Abstractions
- Work closely with Product and Customers to design experiences for internet scale computing
- Design compute abstractions used by all of engineering
- Mentor peer engineers in building, maintaining, and deploying complex features
- Drive operational excellence on the Abstractions team
- Maintain currency on industry trends
- Develop automated systems to test for regressions and performance
Requirements For Distributed Systems Engineer (L5) - Compute Abstractions
- Proven track record of architecting and implementing customer-focused products at 100M+ user scale
- Experience driving wide change at the scale of 100's of engineers
- Experience architecting, implementing, and owning distributed systems at scale of 10's of services
- Seasoned mentorship experience
- Strong focus on building easy to use and maintain systems
- Ability to balance complex stakeholder needs
- Self-starter with ability to manage cross-functional projects
