Description For Senior Operations Engineering Engineer

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a Senior Operations Engineering Engineer to join their Operations department. This role is crucial in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of New York's power system.

The Senior Operations Engineering Engineer will be responsible for determining system reliability transfer limits, assisting management in reviewing NYISO controlled and secured facilities, and developing engineering studies and analysis. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Performing analytical engineering system studies for NYISO seasonal operating studies, NERC, NPCC, and Inter-Regional study support.
  2. Conducting detailed analysis of system events and disturbances.
  3. Supporting Regional Market Coordination through the calculation and evaluation of distribution factors.
  4. Maintaining detailed electric power system models for the NYCA.
  5. Reviewing NYISO controlled and secured facilities, standards, and practices.
  6. Evaluating computer simulation programs and tools for safe and reliable operations.
  7. Preparing and maintaining NYISO technical support documentation.
  8. Providing technical support to various departments and participating in committees and working groups.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred) with a focus on power systems. They should have seven years of related industry experience and demonstrated ability to use power system applications software and tools.

Responsibilities For Senior Operations Engineering Engineer

  • Support Regional Market Coordination through calculation and evaluation of distribution factors

Requirements For Senior Operations Engineering Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering required (Master's Degree preferred)
  • Seven years of related/industry experience
  • Knowledge of power systems
  • Demonstrated ability to use power system applications software and tools
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematics including calculus, algebra, and statistical theory
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment and MS Office applications
  • Proficiency in power flow and transient stability applications software (PSS/e or PSLF)
  • Familiarity with fault current assessment applications software (ASPEN One-Liner, etc.)
