Description For Software Engineer - Mission Dev

Nominal is a venture-backed company building software and data solutions for organizations testing complex systems like drones and satellites. With offices in Los Angeles, Austin, and New York City, we're gaining traction in aerospace and defense, working directly with the Department of Defense. Our team includes engineers from SpaceX, Palantir, and NASA, focused on accelerating test data review and analysis.

The Mission Dev role is ideal for software engineers passionate about developing mission-critical solutions deployed to customer sites. You'll balance technical skill, problem-solving, and user engagement to deliver robust solutions for data-intensive systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and deploying solutions at customer sites
  • Collaborating with teams to implement and refine solutions in real-world environments
  • Establishing metrics and monitoring tools for software reliability
  • Partnering with end-users to transform feedback into impactful features
  • Traveling to customer sites to support mission-critical deployments

We're looking for candidates with:

  • 1+ years of relevant post-college experience
  • Strong engineering background (Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics)
  • Proficiency in languages like Python, Java, Rust, or TypeScript/JavaScript
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for on-site client work

Ideal candidates are solution-oriented, technically versatile, adaptable, and have a data-centric mindset. Experience with technologies like Apache Arrow, Flink, Kafka, or Arrow Flight is a plus.
