Description For Supply Base Engineer

NVIDIA is a global leader in AI, computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing. The Supply Base Engineering Team (SBE) is seeking a Supply Base Engineer to focus on New Product Introduction (NPI) for mechanical and thermal components. This role is crucial in integrating design and manufacturing processes, advancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, developing Manufacturing for Design (MFD) solutions, and implementing industry-optimized methodologies for smooth system integration in manufacturing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing consumer NPI mechanical and thermal component qualification
  • Representing Operations during early product lifecycle
  • Ensuring clear product specifications
  • Leading suppliers to establish efficient fabrication processes
  • Providing manufacturability feasibility analysis
  • Performing surveys and audits for new supplier selection
  • Implementing KISS principle and handling DFM exception agreements
  • Addressing production issues and driving corrective actions
  • Owning yield and efficiency improvement actions
  • Reducing manufacturing waste and optimizing costs

The ideal candidate should have:

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (M.S. preferred)
  • 3+ years of consumer product design experience
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial design decoration manufacturing
  • Proven experience in DFM good practices
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience with mechanical design tools (Creo or SolidWorks)
  • Knowledge of testing and inspection methods

Responsibilities For Supply Base Engineer

  • Manage consumer NPI mechanical and thermal component qualification, manufacturing technology management and MP readiness
  • Represent Operations during early product life cycle and provide manufacturability, quality, cost and yield impact information
  • Ensure clear product specifications (CMF, cosmetic spec, 2D drawing, reliability requirement)
  • Lead suppliers to establish efficient fabrication process flow and drive solutions to problems
  • Provide manufacturability feasibility analysis, identify risks, and develop mitigation plans
  • Perform surveys and audits for new supplier selection and qualification
  • Implement KISS principle and handle DFM exception agreements
  • Address production issues, monitor fleet health, and drive corrective actions
  • Own yield and efficiency improvement actions based on SPC data analysis
  • Reduce manufacturing waste, optimize costs, and improve cosmetic appearance

Requirements For Supply Base Engineer

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience; M.S. preferred
  • 3+ years of consumer product design experience
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial design decoration manufacturing technology capability, material selection, and related tooling/mold technologies
  • Proven hands-on experience and proficiency in DFM good practice
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to learn quickly and operate outside of comfort zone
  • Detail-oriented with good project management skills
  • Working knowledge of modern mechanical design tools (preferably Creo or SolidWorks)
  • Proficiency with commonly used testing and inspection methods and instruments
