Nylas is a leading provider of communication APIs, serving over 100,000 developers and 900+ companies globally. We're seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team in building and optimizing internal tooling and products that support feature engineering teams.
The role focuses on creating reliable and resilient systems to address common engineering requirements, with an emphasis on automation and performance optimization. You'll be working with cutting-edge technologies including Go, JavaScript, and Kubernetes in a multicloud environment, handling billions of API requests daily.
As an ideal candidate, you should bring 4+ years of backend development experience, strong full-stack capabilities, and expertise in distributed systems and microservices. You'll be part of a team that values technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $130,000 to $170,000 CAD, along with comprehensive benefits including unlimited PTO, healthcare coverage, parental leave, and educational stipends. Responsibilities For Backend Developer
- Build and optimize internal services supporting RESTful APIs that handle billions of requests daily
- Shorten test, release, and deployment verification feedback cycles
- Collaborate on deploying and maintaining services built in Go and Javascript
- Deploy virtualized, containerized, and functions-as-a-service applications in multicloud environment
- Project platform and product needs to build tooling for future feature development
- Standardize big data processing pipeline development stack
- Implement standard observability framework across Nylas
- Improve platform security by adding linting, scanning and pentest tools to CI/CD pipeline
Requirements For Backend Developer
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
- 4+ years of experience in backend development on high-impact projects
- Full-stack engineer with expertise in both backend and frontend development
- Hands-on experience in building and maintaining applications, including API and client-side implementations
- Experience developing and testing with Go and JavaScript
- Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with modern database and storage (MySQL, NoSQL)
- Experience with containers and related infrastructure (Docker and K8S)
- Experience with Cloud Services (AWS or GCP preferred)
