The position requires working in challenging conditions at sea, with 13+ hour days, 7 days a week. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with safety oversight and team management. Engineers work in remote locations, often days away from shore, maintaining crucial ship systems and ensuring regulatory compliance. Responsibilities For USCG Licensed Assistant Engineer

  • Work under chief engineer's direction for vessel operations
  • Assist in operation, maintenance, and repair of vessel's operating systems
  • Assist in transferring bulk petroleum products
  • Maintain inventory control system
  • Prepare department records and reports
  • Oversee safety program
  • Ensure engineering crew training and hazard awareness
  • Enforce LOCK OUT-TAGS PLUS procedures
  • Resolve technical problems
  • Provide emergency directions

Requirements For USCG Licensed Assistant Engineer

  • USCG 3rd Assistant License Unlimited or higher
  • Engine room experience on catcher processor vessel preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 24 months or more relevant work experience in last 4 years
  • Ability to work 16½ hours per day, 7 days per week
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests
  • English language proficiency
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Color vision for identifying fish species and safety signs
