Data Scientist, Product

OpenAI is seeking a Data Scientist for their Product team to establish a data-driven product development culture. This role involves defining north-star metrics, designing A/B tests, and creating dashboards for company-wide use. The position is based in San Francisco HQ, with relocation assistance available.

Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with the product development team to improve products and drive growth
• Defining and interpreting A/B tests to assess model and UX changes
• Establishing and operationalizing feature, product, and company-level metrics
• Developing self-serve dashboards and reports for the team and company

Ideal candidates should have:

• 5+ years of experience in quantitative roles, preferably as a founding data scientist in a hyper-growth product company
• Experience with SQL and Python for rigorous experiments and product recommendations
• Ability to define and implement new metrics from scratch
• Excellent communication skills
• Strategic insights beyond statistical significance testing

Additional valuable skills:

• Experience with NLP, large language models, or generative AI
• Strong programming background for simulations and prototyping
• Experience validating quantitative insights with qualitative methods
