Engineering Manager, Distributed Systems

OpenAI is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Distributed Systems team in San Francisco. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining the large-scale infrastructure that powers our cutting-edge AI research and applications.

As the Engineering Manager for Distributed Systems, you will:

• Lead and mentor a team of talented engineers working on complex distributed systems
• Collaborate with research teams to understand and implement infrastructure requirements for AI models
• Design and oversee the development of scalable, reliable, and efficient distributed systems
• Contribute to the overall technical strategy and roadmap for OpenAI's infrastructure
• Ensure best practices in system design, code quality, and operational excellence

The ideal candidate will have:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, with a focus on distributed systems
• Proven track record of leading and growing engineering teams
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud computing, and large-scale data processing
• Experience with AI/ML infrastructure is a plus
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
