Post-training, Reasoning Interfaces & Core Model - Research Engineer

OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer / Scientist for their Post-training, Reasoning Interfaces & Core Model team. This role involves developing challenging evaluations and novel methods to train state-of-the-art models, improving their capabilities, and creating the next generation of human-AI interfaces. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background, familiarity with the emerging LLM stack, and experience in applied Machine Learning.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing challenging evaluations for novel capabilities
• Developing scalable synthetic data techniques
• Training models and running scientific experiments
• Iterating on research experiments and communicating insights
• Integrating core behaviors into next-gen frontier models
• Co-creating novel product surfaces and interaction paradigms
• Collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams

The role requires strong Python skills, experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Models, and familiarity with frontend technologies. Experience in design engineering and rapid prototyping is a plus.
