Description For Product Manufacturing Engineer

OpenAI is seeking a Product Manufacturing Engineer to drive technical initiatives related to manufacturing, ensuring product success from concept to launch and through mass production. This role is part of the Compute team, which works on the design of AI supercomputers, from workload modeling to influencing accelerator design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead product design and manufacturing processes for next-gen AI hardware system development
  • Establish NPI product manufacturing processes, systems, and quality controls
  • Provide hands-on product manufacturing analysis during all phases of development
  • Research automation techniques and develop new tests and systems for efficiency
  • Own overall product manufacturing development of hardware products
  • Develop and manage product manufacturing requirements, scope, schedules, and deliverables
  • Create and manage a queryable manufacturing test database
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to resolve issues and perform risk assessment

  • Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept to production launch
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Up-to-date on industry trends and manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with PCB material selection, PCBA, BOM selection, assembly, and rework processes
  • Familiar with sheet metal forming, assembly, and tolerances
  • Experience with testing ultra-high speed signals
  • Skilled in capturing, analyzing, and presenting manufacturing test data
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions

  • Significant experience driving creativity, quality, and schedule at multinational JDM/CM vendors
  • Deep familiarity with PCB material selection, PCBA, BOM selection, assembly and rework processes
  • Experience specifying sheet metal forming, assembly, and tolerances
  • Knowledge of testing ultra-high speed signals
  • Experience in capturing, analyzing, and presenting manufacturing test data
  • Comfort with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions
