Research Engineer, Post-training Model Capability

OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer for Post-training Model Capability to join their team responsible for the "post-training" or alignment of models behind ChatGPT and the API. This role involves advancing the capabilities of large language and multimodal models, focusing on areas such as multimodal product research, multilingual research, developing tool uses on mobile and desktop, building data flywheels, and conducting research on new post-training methods.

The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of machine learning and its applications, experience in tuning large language models (multimodal) and building evaluations, and the ability to dive into large ML codebases for debugging. They should thrive in a dynamic and technically complex environment and have a track record of delivering innovative solutions to real-world constraints.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting multimodal product research (e.g., building video + speech → speech model capabilities)
• Advancing intelligence and cultural relevance for non-English languages
• Developing a broad set of tool uses on mobile and desktop
• Building data flywheels to improve model capabilities
• Identifying new post-training methods and collaborating with the applied organization
