OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer/Scientist to join their Computer-Using Agent team, which focuses on developing and deploying agents that operate GUI-based tools like computers and browsers. This role combines cutting-edge research with practical engineering to advance the capabilities of computer-using agents. The position offers a competitive salary range of $295K-$530K plus equity and comprehensive benefits.
The ideal candidate will work on identifying and solving challenges in agent development, pursuing research agendas to improve model capabilities, and building innovative components for computer-using agents. The role requires expertise in multimodal web agents, reinforcement learning, and large-scale machine learning systems.
The position is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days in office), offering relocation assistance. - Identify open challenges for developing practical computer-using agents
- Own and pursue a research agenda to improve model capability and performance
- Build and innovate components for developing computer-using agents
- Design, implement, test, and debug code across research stack
Requirements For Research Engineer / Research Scientist, Computer-Using Agent
- Strong background in multimodal web agents, computer-using agents, large-scale reinforcement learning or agentic safety research
- Strong engineering skills in designing and optimizing large-scale machine learning systems
- Team player willing to do various tasks
