Description For Research Engineering Lead, Post-training Evaluation

OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineering Lead for Post-training Evaluation to join our team in San Francisco. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and innovate in the field of AI research and development.

As a Research Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the post-training evaluation of AI models, a critical step in ensuring the effectiveness and safety of our AI systems. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and product managers, to develop and implement robust evaluation methodologies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design and implementation of post-training evaluation frameworks for complex AI models
  • Collaborating with research teams to identify key performance metrics and potential risks in AI systems
  • Developing innovative techniques to assess model behavior, safety, and alignment with intended goals
  • Managing a team of engineers and researchers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Staying at the forefront of AI safety and evaluation research, incorporating new findings into our processes

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in machine learning, AI research, or a related field
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing technical teams
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, neural networks, and AI safety considerations
  • Excellent programming skills, particularly in languages commonly used in AI research (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Track record of publications or contributions to the field of AI research and evaluation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
