Description For Security Engineer, Detection & Response

OpenAI is seeking a Security Engineer specializing in Detection & Response to join their Security team. This role is crucial in protecting OpenAI's technology, people, and products. As a Security Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of building, operating, and securing transformational AI technologies.

The role focuses on all aspects of Detection & Response, including infrastructure and operations, while also contributing to the Security team as a strong generalist. You'll drive projects across major security verticals, innovate to solve novel security problems, and collaborate on cutting-edge AI research to improve OpenAI's security posture.

Key responsibilities include innovating on Detection and Response infrastructure, building tools for managing detection rules, automating response processes, and ensuring visibility and control of OpenAI's endpoint fleet. You'll also drive improvements in identity access management, device management, and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate should have experience in Security or a related field, knowledge of cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, understanding of modern adversary tactics, proficiency in scripting languages, and strong collaboration skills.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, Detection & Response

  • Drive projects in all major security verticals including: AppSec, InfraSec, OffSec and Detection and Response
  • Innovate to solve novel security problems
  • Collaborate on cutting-edge AI research, and use AI to improve OpenAI's Security posture
  • Innovate on Detection and Response infrastructure
  • Build tools for managing the lifecycle of detection rules
  • Develop, measure, and tune detection rules to ensure effective and sustainable operations
  • Automate manual response processes
  • Ensure visibility and control of OpenAI's endpoint fleet (macOS, Windows)
  • Drive improvements across identity access and management (IAM), device management, productivity software, and use of public cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Microsoft Azure)

Requirements For Security Engineer, Detection & Response

Python
  • Experience in Security or a Security-adjacent field
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or cloud infrastructure platforms
  • Knowledge of modern adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • Proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar)
  • Ability to empathize and collaborate with colleagues, independently manage and run projects, and prioritize efforts for risk reduction
