Software Engineer, Infrastructure

OpenAI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for their Infrastructure team to join their mission of ensuring AI benefits humanity. This role, based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model, offers a competitive salary range of $160K-$385K plus equity and comprehensive benefits. The position focuses on building and maintaining the core infrastructure supporting products like ChatGPT and the API.

As a key member of the cloud infrastructure team, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining infrastructure abstractions that enable OpenAI to deploy products quickly and scalably. The role requires expertise in operating Kubernetes at scale and building cloud platform abstractions. You'll be part of the team managing kubernetes clusters, infrastructure deployment, networking stack, and cloud abstractions.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of core infrastructure experience, with a strong background in building and operating scalable, reliable, and secure systems. You'll participate in an on-call rotation for critical incidents and contribute to creating an inclusive culture that encourages diverse perspectives.
