Software Engineer, Real Time

OpenAI is seeking an experienced and creative Software Engineer for Real Time systems to join their Applied AI Engineering team in Seattle. The role involves scaling existing systems and building next-generation systems to enable new product classes. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with full-stack development and have experience with Real-Time Communication (RTC) systems in production.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and building development and production platforms
• Partnering with cross-functional teams to bring new features and research capabilities to market
• Accelerating engineering productivity through excellent tooling and systems
• Contributing to a diverse and inclusive culture
• Building and supporting globally deployed systems, including on-call rotation

Qualifications:

• Significant experience with production systems at scale
• Expertise in real-time communication products and systems (WebRTC, audio/video calling, encoding/decoding, etc.)
• Strong focus on user experience and customer needs
• Humble attitude and willingness to help colleagues
• End-to-end problem-solving skills
• Startup or early-stage engineering experience is beneficial
• Machine Learning experience is a plus
