Software Engineer, Safety

OpenAI is seeking a Software Engineer for Safety to join their Applied AI team. This role is crucial in building out trust and safety capabilities for OpenAI's advanced AI technologies. The engineer will design and implement systems to detect and prevent abuse, promote user safety, and reduce risk across the platform.

Key responsibilities include:

• Architecting, building, and maintaining anti-abuse and content moderation infrastructure
• Utilizing both industry-standard and novel AI techniques to combat abuse and toxic content
• Assisting with response to active incidents and building new tooling to address fundamental problems

The ideal candidate should have:

• At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience with production backend services and data pipelines
• A humble attitude and eagerness to help colleagues
• Self-direction and problem-solving skills
• End-to-end ownership of problems
• Expertise in building software systems that defend against abuse
• Ability to build tools to accelerate workflows when necessary

OpenAI's tech stack includes Terraform, Kubernetes, Azure, Python, Postgres, and Kafka. While experience with these technologies is valued, strong technical skills and the ability to quickly learn new tools are prioritized.
