We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our Position Systems team who will play a crucial role in creating the path to commercial fusion energy. Responsibilities For Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Position Systems

  • Drive and develop innovative mechanical designs for complex, multi-degree of freedom positioning systems
  • Lead the implementation of design changes and improvements across positioning systems
  • Work closely with vendors and manufacturers to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective
  • Provide structural mechanical analysis on various systems
  • Conduct design reviews and provide critical feedback
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate system-level designs
  • Rapidly iterate on designs and prototypes
  • Oversee creation of detailed design documentation and specifications
  • Participate in risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Position Systems

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required (Master's or PhD is a plus)
  • 10+ years work experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software - Creo preferred - with extensive experience in GD&T
  • Experience in mechanical engineering analysis including Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Proven track record of designing multi-degree of freedom, precision systems
  • Extensive knowledge of material properties and their impact on precision engineering
  • Excellent leadership skills with ability to mentor junior engineers
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and DFM
  • Experience in hands-on engineering design and rapid iteration
