PayPay Card, established in 2021, is a FinTech company that's part of the rapidly expanding PayPay ecosystem in Japan. With over 65 million users, PayPay is used by approximately one in two smartphone users in Japan. We're seeking backend engineers to build and rebuild robust, scalable, and maintainable services.
Our mission is to revolutionize the credit card industry by:

As a backend engineer, you'll:
- Design and deliver large-scale, complex systems
- Manage stakeholders across various teams
- Leverage infrastructure to solve large-scale problems
- Act as a gatekeeper for team quality standards
- Debug and resolve product issues
- Mentor team members
Our tech stack includes:
- Backend: Spring Boot (Java 11/17), some legacy Java EE
- Testing: JUnit, Mockito
- Deployment: AWS ECS, CodePipeline
- Infrastructure: AWS, CloudFormation, CloudWatch
- Tools: GitHub, IntelliJ, Gradle, Confluence, Miro, JIRA, Slack, Zoom, Office 365
We're looking for candidates with:
- Excellent Java and Spring Boot skills
- Experience with databases and distributed computing
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and OOP
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
- Degree in Computer Engineering/Science or 5+ years equivalent experience
- English business proficiency
