Description For Data Centre Engineer

Pico, a global leader in market data services and infrastructure solutions for financial markets, is seeking a Data Centre Engineer for their London operations. This role is crucial for maintaining and expanding Pico's data center infrastructure, which supports the global capital markets community. The position involves hands-on work with critical infrastructure, including equipment installation, cabling, troubleshooting, and maintenance across multiple data centers.

The ideal candidate will work Tuesday to Saturday, including night hours, making this role suitable for those comfortable with non-traditional schedules. You'll be based in London but will travel between data centers across EMEA, APAC, and AMRS regions. This position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in the financial services sector, maintaining mission-critical infrastructure that powers global markets.

As a Data Centre Engineer, you'll be part of a small but highly skilled team, working closely with Network and Systems engineering teams, Project Management, and client Service Delivery functions. The role requires a structured approach, strong team ethos, and the ability to solve problems under pressure. You'll need to respond to emergencies within an hour and be flexible with travel arrangements, sometimes on short notice.

Responsibilities For Data Centre Engineer

  • Equipment Rack and Stack
  • Cable, Label & terminate fiber or copper network cabling
  • Assist with hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Perform cabinet/cage audits
  • Blade/Card, Memory, Hard Drive, and Transceiver installations or removal
  • Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits
  • Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices
  • Manage shipping and receiving of packages
  • Arrange access for internal and external customers
  • Order, receive, install, and test cross connects
  • Maintain ticketing system updates
  • Perform inventory verification and rack elevation documentation
  • Monitor power utilization in co-locations
  • Maintain Data Centre cleanliness
  • Provide rotational on-call coverage
  • Travel within EMEA region as needed

Requirements For Data Centre Engineer

Linux
  • 1+ years of experience in Telecommunications or Data Centre related field
  • In-depth knowledge of Telecom structured cabling standards
  • In-depth knowledge of network device / server deployment
  • In-depth knowledge of DCO standards and operations
  • Eligibility to work in Germany and Europe
  • Experience with industry standard test equipment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Building Management System and Branch Circuit Monitoring experience
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Professional business communication skills
  • Mission Critical Data Centre Facility Maintenance experience
