Description For Experienced Software Engineer - Risk Engineering

The Consumer Risk team at Plaid is responsible for protecting Plaid and its ecosystem against fraud and abuse activities. As an Experienced Software Engineer in Risk Engineering, you will develop risk defenses to detect and mitigate abusive activities across Plaid products. Your role involves building tailored risk systems and implementing defenses that benefit the broader ecosystem.

You'll collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional teams to derive risk insights, improve product features, and respond to fraud challenges. Your influence will extend to product direction, enhancing resilience against fraud and abuse by solving complex problems through innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring success in protecting Plaid's products, consumers, and the ecosystem against fraud and abuse
  • Leading and contributing to critical fraud domain projects across multiple quarters, teams, and services
  • Collaborating with cross-functional leaders to influence product strategies across all Plaid products
  • Automating operations teams' review and response processes for new or ongoing attacks

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping successful projects
  • Hands-on experience in Fraud & Risk Engineering, building end-to-end risk solutions
  • Excellent coding, testing, and system design skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience working with product, design, data science, and ML teams

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience in productionizing ML models
  • Experience in shipping 0 to 1 projects
  • Familiarity with data-intensive systems and graph data models
