Description For Senior Software Engineer

Polaron, a pioneering spin-out from Imperial College London, is revolutionizing the intersection of AI and materials science. Founded by Dr Isaac Squires, Dr Steve Kench, and Dr Sam Cooper, the company is building cutting-edge solutions for the materials of the future. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll join a team of nine with significant autonomy to shape the development of their cloud-based SaaS platform.

The role focuses on developing an intuitive platform that enables materials engineers to leverage state-of-the-art image-based AI. You'll work on challenging technical problems, from optimizing high-resolution image handling in the frontend to managing GPU cluster scaling and developing public APIs. The position requires expertise in frontend development, particularly with React and TypeScript, while also demanding full-stack capabilities including cloud infrastructure management with AWS and Terraform.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who combines technical excellence with product-oriented thinking. The company offers a collaborative environment with a flexible working policy (typically 4 days in office, 1 day WFH) and competitive compensation (£85,000-130,000). The interview process is thorough yet practical, including a paid trial day to ensure mutual fit.

The role would be ideal for someone who enjoys working across the technology stack, has experience with high-performance web applications, and wants to contribute to developing materials critical for a sustainable future. With equity offered and the chance to work in a fast-growing company, this position presents an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in an innovative field.
