Description For Senior Mechanical Engineer

Procon Consulting, a McLean, VA-based professional services firm, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Huntsville, AL. This role will support the FBI's Architectural Engineering Services Unit (AESU), focusing on mechanical systems design and management for renovation and construction projects.

The position requires a seasoned professional with at least 10 years of experience (20+ preferred) in mechanical system design and construction for commercial or government facilities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, PE license, and must possess a Secret clearance.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and analyzing HVAC systems, performing cooling load calculations, and ensuring compliance with FBI standards and federal regulations. You'll work with specialized rooms such as data closets and communication rooms, participate in commissioning processes, and provide expertise in construction administration.

Responsibilities For Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Perform and interpret cooling load calculations and read ductwork layouts
  • Design and analyze various mechanical systems, including HVAC
  • Review mechanical systems for specialized rooms
  • Evaluate watts-per-square-foot ratios and ensure code compliance
  • Develop and review sequences of operations for HVAC systems
  • Participate in commissioning processes and life-cycle analysis
  • Assist in cost estimation and scope of work development
  • Perform construction administration tasks
  • Act as a consultant in establishing design standards
  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders
  • Develop reports, presentations, and studies

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical system design and construction (20+ years preferred)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking capabilities
  • Familiarity with federal standards and FBI design requirements
  • Must possess a Secret clearance
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
