Description For CPU Physical Design Engineer - San Diego

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is seeking a CPU Physical Design Engineer to join their innovative team in San Diego. This role sits at the intersection of hardware design and performance optimization, where you'll work on cutting-edge CPU implementations that power next-generation technologies.

As a CPU Physical Design Engineer, you'll collaborate with microarchitecture and RTL design teams to implement designs that meet aggressive power, area, and performance goals using industry-standard tools and flows. Your responsibilities will span from initial feasibility studies to final GDS delivery, requiring expertise in synthesis, place & route, and optimization techniques.

The ideal candidate brings 2+ years of hardware engineering experience or equivalent education (Master's with 1+ year or PhD), with strong knowledge of CPU microarchitecture and deep submicron process technology. You'll need expertise in library cells, industry-standard tools for synthesis and place & route, and a solid understanding of high-performance and low-power implementation methods.

Responsibilities For CPU Physical Design Engineer - San Diego

  • Work with CPU microarchitecture team to understand specifications and design trade offs
  • Perform feasibilities to validate implementability, area, timing and power
  • Synthesize Verilog RTL into gate level designs and perform optimizations
  • Perform SynthPlace & Route using industry standard tools and deliver GDS
  • Optimize designs to meet timing, power and area goals
  • Validate designs for functional and electrical robustness

Requirements For CPU Physical Design Engineer - San Diego

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years experience
  • Knowledge of CPU microarchitecture
  • Experience in deep submicron process technology nodes
  • Knowledge of library cells and optimizations
  • Understanding of industry standard tools for synthesis, place & route and tapeout flows
  • Experience with Synthesis, place and route and signoff timing/power analysis
  • Knowledge of high performance and low power implementation methods
