Description For FY25 Intern - Platform Engineering Intern - 6 months, Cork

Qualcomm, a global leader in technology, is seeking a Platform Engineering Intern for their Cork, Ireland location. This 6-month internship position is part of their High-Performance Computing (HPC) team, which supports one of the world's largest HPC environments focused on Electronic Design Automation (EDA) workloads.

The role offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge HPC infrastructure, where you'll be responsible for designing, deploying, and operating foundational components of their internal high-performance computing platform. You'll be part of a global cross-functional Platform Engineering team, working on critical infrastructure that supports Qualcomm's ASIC design execution.

As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience with distributed computing systems, Linux-based environments, and modern technologies including containerization, virtualization, and high-performance storage systems. The position requires strong technical fundamentals in computer science or engineering, with a focus on system programming and Linux operations.

  • Design, develop and evolve the foundational HPC infrastructure to support large scale EDA and AI
  • Evaluate and select optimal hardware and software components for HPC infrastructure
  • Continuously observe, assess and optimize the performance of HPC environments
  • Design and implement solutions to improve resilience, scalability and security of HPC environments
  • Provide highest tier of support to users of the HPC environments
