Description For Test Engineer

Qualdoc Staffing is seeking a Test Engineer for a direct hire position in Richmond, VA. The role focuses on designing and upgrading test apparatus, validating test data, and ensuring customer needs are met in a mechanical laboratory setting. The selected individual will be responsible for test apparatus design, data validation, and industry representation.

The position requires a hands-on approach to testing and problem-solving, working closely with OEMs and customers to develop technically sound solutions. The ideal candidate will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and at least two years of experience in automotive, fuels, emissions, or lubricant testing environments.

Key responsibilities include designing performance tests, maintaining knowledge of industry trends, ensuring safety compliance, and managing customer relationships. The role requires strong technical expertise in engines, fuel management systems, and test cell hardware, combined with excellent project management and communication skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented engineer who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and interact effectively with all levels of the organization. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $70,000 to $80,000 based on experience and requires up to 20% travel.

Responsibilities For Test Engineer

  • Design and develop tests that produce performance data to meet the objectives of internal/external customer programs
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of company technology, customer needs, market trends, and industry direction
  • Maintain safe work practices and adhere to all safety regulations
  • Comply with all ISO and quality system requirements with an emphasis on continuous improvement
  • Maintain productive relationships with team members and internal and external customers
  • Prepare written technical reports and make oral presentations internally and externally as necessary

Requirements For Test Engineer

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of two years experience in a testing environment, preferably in automotive, fuels, emissions or lubricant testing
  • Experience with the design, construction, and commissioning of test cells, rigs, or other research tools
  • Intimate knowledge of vehicles, engines, and/or transmissions, and associated electronics
  • Solid understanding of PID control
  • Working knowledge of SI and CI engines, fuel management systems, electronic engine control, CAN communication
  • Excellent project management skills (MS Project)
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to work productively in cross-functional team situations
  • Able to travel as required (up to 20%)
