Raft is seeking an experienced Chief Data Engineer to support customers and join their passionate team of high-impact problem solvers. As a Chief Data Engineer at Raft, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of Raft's Data Platform, leading multiple software teams through complex production at an enormous scale. Raft is building a best-of-breed Data Platform central to implementing Data Fabric and Data Mesh architectures, using OSS solutions combined with added security for DoD Enterprise. The role involves making architectural decisions that solve current and future requirements.
Key responsibilities and requirements:
- 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience in Data Engineering
- 10+ years of technical leadership experience
- Proficiency in languages like Java, Python, or GoLang
- Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Ansible, or Terraform
- Experience in the DoD Ecosystem as a leader and thought leader
- Familiarity with data tools like DBT, Pinot, Trino, Kafka, DeltaLake
- Knowledge of Graph Databases, Knowledge Graphs, and Ontologies
- Product-level thinking and ability to break down complex features
- Leadership of 12+ engineers
- Master's or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics
- Ability to obtain Security+ certification within 90 days

Responsibilities For Chief Data Engineer
- Shape the foundation of Raft's Data Platform
- Lead multiple software teams through complex production at an enormous scale
- Make architectural decisions that solve current and future requirements
- Implement Data Fabric and Data Mesh architectures
- Work with best-of-breed OSS solutions and enhance them for DoD Enterprise security
- Advocate with customers and understand mission needs
- Help build product roadmaps
- Break down big complex features into small chunks
Requirements For Chief Data Engineer
- 10+ years of experience being a hands-on engineer with demonstrable experience in Data Engineering
- 10+ years of experience being a technical leader leading teams, advocating with customers, understanding mission needs, and helping build product roadmaps
- Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java (JVM Based stack), Python, GoLang, etc.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following scripting languages: Bash, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
- Experience working in the DoD Ecosystem as a leader leading teams and as a Thought Leader thinking outside the box
- Experience with Data focused tools like: DBT, Pinot, Trino, Kafka, DeltaLake
- Experience in Knowledge Graphs, Graph Databases and Ontologies
- Experience thinking at the product level, epic level, and user story level
- Leadership leading a team of 12+ engineers to gain alignment, plan, and execute
- Master's or higher in Computer Science / Engineering / Physics / Mathematics background
- Obtain Security+ within the first 90 days of employment with Raft
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
