Description For Instrumentation and Controls Design Engineer

Redwood Materials, founded in 2017, is revolutionizing the electric vehicle and clean energy industry by creating a circular supply chain for batteries. As an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Design Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in designing and implementing control systems for our chemical processing facilities. This exciting startup environment offers the unique opportunity to develop systems and standards from the ground up.

Your responsibilities will span from creating detailed designs and specifying instruments to collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You'll contribute to I&C system designs, develop construction and as-built drawings, maintain specifications, and participate in safety analyses. Your expertise will be vital in reviewing P&IDs, supporting the controls engineering team, and troubleshooting complex systems.

We're looking for a candidate with a strong background in engineering, preferably with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering. You should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in I&C systems for chemical processing plants. Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD and REVIT, is essential. Familiarity with industry standards like ISA, NEC, and ANSI is crucial.

Responsibilities For Instrumentation and Controls Design Engineer

  • Contribute to the development of I&C system designs
  • Develop detailed 'Issued for Construction Drawings' and 'As-Built Drawings'
  • Develop and maintain instrumentation installation specification
  • Review and edit P&ID, loop diagrams, and control system narratives
  • Support controls engineering team in specification and selection of I&C devices
  • Participate in process hazard analysis, HAZOP, and LOPA
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation
  • Develop commissioning procedures for instrumentation systems
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians
  • Assist in procurement activities
  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system problems

Requirements For Instrumentation and Controls Design Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or appropriate alternative
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (ISA, NEC, ANSI)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD and REVIT) and instrumentation design tools
