Description For Senior MES Controls Engineer

Redwood Materials, founded in 2017, is dedicated to creating a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products. Their mission is to increase sustainability and reduce battery costs through innovative recycling and sustainable material technologies.

The Senior MES Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) at Redwood Materials. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic thinking to support the company's manufacturing strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing and executing strategic projects aligned with Redwood's manufacturing goals
  2. Providing subject matter expertise in hardware and software development, adhering to ISA112, ISA95, Industry 4.0, and IIoT standards
  3. Managing the Level 2 and 3 layers of the automation pyramid
  4. Collaborating with IT and Controls Engineers on network architecture
  5. Partnering with cross-functional teams to drive MES project requirements
  6. Creating and maintaining design documents, architecture diagrams, and SOPs
  7. Integrating MES with ERP systems
  8. Providing technical leadership and training to Controls Engineers
  9. Administering databases and servers for Automation systems

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in automated manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency with Inductive Automation's Ignition, Sepasoft MES Suite, SQL Databases, Linux and Windows Servers, OT Networks, and Industrial Switches
  • Strong skills in Python and SQL
  • Comprehensive understanding of Level 1 Automation equipment and industrial communication protocols
  • Network troubleshooting capabilities
  • A passion for sustainability and making a positive impact on the world

Responsibilities For Senior MES Controls Engineer

  • Design and execution of all sizes of strategic projects in line with Redwood's overall manufacturing strategies
  • Provide extensive subject matter knowledge and experience with hardware and software development adhering to ISA112 and ISA95, Industry 4.0, and IIoT
  • Administer and maintain the Level 2 and 3 layers in the automation pyramid to support the manufacturing enterprise system
  • Work closely with IT and the Controls Engineers for network architecture design and implementation
  • Partner with cross functional teams to discover business needs to drive requirements for MES projects
  • Author and maintain detailed design documents, system architecture diagrams and standard operating procedures
  • Work hand in hand with the ERP Software Engineer to seamlessly integrate MES with ERP
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training to the Controls Engineers
  • Administer and maintain databases and servers associated with Automation systems

Requirements For Senior MES Controls Engineer

  • Minimum of 8 years' hands-on experience working in an automated manufacturing environment
  • Proficient working with Inductive Automation's Ignition, Sepasoft MES Suite, SQL Databases, Linux and Windows Servers, OT Networks, and Industrial Switches
  • Proficient with python and SQL languages
  • Full understanding of Level 1 Automation equipment such as PLC's, Robot controllers, HMI's and plant level networking systems
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols and fieldbuses
  • Strong with network troubleshooting and capable of terminating CAT6 connections
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place
