Redwood Materials, a pioneering company in sustainable battery supply chains, is seeking a Staff Systems Design Engineer to play a crucial role in developing their facilities and factories. Founded in 2017, the company is revolutionizing the electric vehicle and clean energy industry by creating circular supply chains and innovative recycling solutions.

The position requires an experienced engineer who will develop sophisticated system models incorporating mechanical, thermal, and chemical components. You'll be working with cutting-edge technology, applying first-principles modeling techniques through custom software development to create plant-scale models. These models will be instrumental in maximizing system efficiencies, detecting problems, and powering soft sensors.

Responsibilities For Staff Systems Design Engineer

  • Implementing complex system design models integrating mechanical, thermal, chemical, and control theories
  • Integrate live data from factory floor and implement functionality to detect anomalies
  • Navigate cross-functional landscape to gather requirements and provide solutions
  • Provide modeling support to optimize plant efficiency
  • Apply knowledge of motors, pumps, sensors, actuators, and thermodynamic systems
  • Provide high-level control strategy design informed by simulation and data analytics

Requirements For Staff Systems Design Engineer

Python
  • M.S. in Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • At least seven years of experience in Systems Design Engineering and first-principles modeling
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or simulation software packages
  • Working knowledge of Simulink, Matlab, and/or FEA / CFD modeling tools
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and thermodynamics first principles
  • Exposure to complex system design
  • Self-motivated, hands-on attitude
  • Passion for sustainability
