Description For Structures Test Engineer II

As a Structures Test Engineer II at Relativity Space, you'll be responsible for bringing structural test stands from design concept to full operational readiness. Your role encompasses a full design cycle, including conceptualization, design, analysis, fabrication, and operation of test stands ranging from benchtop fixtures for actuator testing to multi-story steel towers for stage testing.

You'll work on projects such as:

  • Designing and analyzing steel weldments for applying test loads to various hardware
  • Creating drawings and work instructions for assembling 3D printed parts into test stands
  • Writing and executing test day procedures
  • Supporting design and data reviews of flight structures

You'll collaborate closely with Additive, Design, Test, and Loads & Dynamics teams to complete projects on time and budget. The role requires hands-on work, thriving in ambiguity, and leading projects to completion.

On a weekly basis, you'll design components using NX/TeamCenter, perform analysis using Nastran, ANSYS and/or hand calculations, and conduct operations in the test yard. You'll also brainstorm new ways to accommodate the speed and flexibility of additive manufacturing methods and use your strong organizational skills to document work and provide recommendations in technical discussions.

Requirements For Structures Test Engineer II

  • 2+ years of experience in a full cycle design engineering role
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and test (from hand calculations to advanced analysis)
  • Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Fundamental knowledge of additive and traditional manufacturing processes
