Ring is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer to join their global electrical engineering team. This role is crucial in maintaining the highest product quality standards and driving continuous improvement for Ring's products. The position involves system-level design for SoC platforms, memory, sensors, power architecture, and related peripheral functions, integrating technologies like radar, cameras, audio, WiFi, 4G LTE, and Bluetooth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing thermal compliance verification of systems and components
  • Collaborating with design and production teams on thermal validation plans
  • Analyzing thermal/power data and offering insights
  • Designing fixtures for thermal validation and data collection
  • Troubleshooting thermal issues and documenting processes
  • Verifying thermal performance for various qualifications and designs
  • Developing testing automation
  • Managing thermal testing equipment

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, with 5+ years of thermal experience in system design and validation. They should be proficient in thermal simulation tools, familiar with thermal validation equipment, and have knowledge of heat transfer principles and SoC power characteristics.

Responsibilities For System Thermal Engineer, Ring

  • Perform thermal compliance verification of systems and components
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to develop detailed thermal validation plans
  • Analyze and interpret thermal/power data from validation tests
  • Design fixtures for thermal validation, thermal data collection and power measurement
  • Work cross-functionally to troubleshoot thermal issues identified during validation
  • Document thermal validation and troubleshooting processes
  • Verify thermal performance for second source qualification, cost down design, manufacturing efficiency
  • Develop and contribute in testing automation
  • Calibrate, manage and maintain thermal testing equipment

Requirements For System Thermal Engineer, Ring

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years thermal experience in design and validation of systems
  • Experience with SoC and system thermal measurement
  • Experience with thermal and power data analysis
  • Experience with development and/or selection of thermal control hardware
  • Proficiency in thermal simulation tools such as FloTherm, FloTherm XT, and FloEFD
  • Familiar with thermal validation equipment
  • Knowledge of heat conduction, heat convention and radiation
  • Knowledge of SoC power and thermal characteristics
  • Basic Knowledge of firmware operation
