Description For Meat Manager

The Meat Manager position at Safeway is responsible for directing the operation of the Meat Department, including supervising and training personnel. The role focuses on ensuring customer service excellence and maintaining product quality, freshness, safety, and selection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead customer service initiatives to meet/exceed Division goals
  • Supervise daily meat department operations
  • Train and manage meat department staff
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety procedures
  • Manage inventory and ordering
  • Maintain department cleanliness and organization
  • Handle customer relations and special orders
  • Monitor and control department expenses

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of meat department operations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
  • Experience with meat cutting equipment
  • Knowledge of profit/loss statements
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in cold environments (35-50°F)
