Description For Network Engineer

Salesforce is seeking a Network Engineer to join their Global Network Operations team, focusing on 24x7 follow-the-sun support of the Salesforce environment. This role is hybrid-based in McLean, VA, and involves managing incident response across all aspects of the production network. The position requires expertise in network operations, including hardware/software lifecycle management, network standardization, and automation.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring network stability, performing both break/fix and proactive maintenance, and providing tier 3 support for network-related customer issues. They will work with sophisticated network technologies, including TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, and OSPF, while utilizing automation tools and programming skills in Python and Ansible.

This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge network infrastructure at a global scale, implementing solutions that directly impact Salesforce's service delivery. The position requires participation in an on-call rotation for weekend support, demonstrating the critical nature of the role in maintaining system reliability.

Responsibilities For Network Engineer

  • Ensure all network issues are resolved in a timely manner, with minimal impact to customers
  • Perform high-level diagnosing and analysis to resolve root cause of network outages
  • Isolate hardware and software problems on network devices
  • Perform break/fix services, such as RMAs, routing changes/traffic engineering, DDoS mitigation
  • Perform proactive network maintenance
  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve network stability
  • Provide third line customer support for network-related issues
  • Drive service ownership for the Network Cloud

Requirements For Network Engineer

Python
Linux
  • High level of proficiency with TCP/IP networking, architecture and core technologies
  • Proficiency with Cisco and Juniper router and switch hardware
  • Experience deploying and managing large scale distributed network environments
  • Knowledge of firewalls and access-list configuration
  • Network automation skills using DevOps and CI/CD pipeline practices
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming with Python and Ansible
  • In-depth knowledge of Unix/Linux environment
  • Experience with performance analysis and systems architecture
  • Strong analytical approach to problem solving
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Related technical degree required
