Senior Software Engineer - Developer Experience

Samsara is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. This role is crucial in shaping the architecture and design of tools and processes that Samsara engineers rely on for building, releasing, and operating safe, scalable, and efficient applications. The team is responsible for the CI/CD platform, GitHub organization, developer environments, and unit and integration testing capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Building platform tooling for product teams to self-service and own delivery and operations of their services.
• Improving the efficiency of delivering new features to production by understanding engineering pain points and proposing productivity-enhancing solutions.
• Creating best practices and support systems for engineers to deliver the best customer experience.
• Researching and understanding the needs of both internal and external customers.
• Collaborating cross-functionally with Design, Product, Customer Success, and Engineering stakeholders.
• Championing Samsara's cultural principles as the company scales globally.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience with modern development practices.
• Strong programming fundamentals in languages like Java, Python, or Golang.
• Experience designing and architecting large, high-scale systems.
• Focus on mentoring fellow engineers.
• Ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver project milestones.

Ideal candidates will also have:

• In-depth experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Proficiency in building and using observability tools and frameworks.
• Familiarity with UNIX shell and Linux operating systems.
• Enjoyment in thinking about systems and their lifecycles, edge cases, and failure modes.
• Collaborative mindset, working with developers across different focuses.
