A leading global technology company is seeking a Principal Engineer to spearhead thermal management innovation for advanced hardware systems. This strategic position offers the opportunity to shape current and future thermal roadmap initiatives at a global scale. The role involves designing and implementing next-generation thermal solutions for cutting-edge chip and system architectures, working closely with diverse teams across design, operations, and supply chain.

The position requires extensive experience in thermal design, with responsibilities including technology roadmapping, thermal design & analysis, validation & qualification, cross-functional collaboration, and thought leadership. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience and strong expertise in thermal management technologies.

The company offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary range of $260,000–$290,000, plus a 25% bonus and RSU benefits. The position is based in San Jose, CA, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring one day per week onsite. Responsibilities For Principal Engineer – Hardware (Thermal Management)

  • Develop and lead system-level thermal technology roadmap with suppliers and vendors
  • Assess and implement innovative cooling strategies
  • Translate experimental test data into meaningful trade-offs
  • Correlate model predictions with real-world test results
  • Create and execute test plans and qualification requirements
  • Oversee mechanical design validation
  • Work with engineering, operations, and supply chain teams
  • Engage with ODMs and component vendors
  • Publish technical papers and presentations
  • Participate in industry consortia and conferences

Requirements For Principal Engineer – Hardware (Thermal Management)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Thermal, or Chemical Engineering
  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in thermal design, simulation, and testing
  • Proficiency in air-cooling technologies
  • Experience in troubleshooting and thermal validation
  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (preferred)
  • 20+ years of experience in microelectronics thermal cooling (preferred)
  • Familiarity with JEDEC JESD 51 thermal testing standards
  • Knowledge of Thermal Interface Material testing procedures
