Founded in 2015, Shield AI is building the world's best AI pilot called Hivemind, which has flown a fighter jet (F-16), a vertical takeoff and landing drone (V-BAT), and a quadcopter (Nova). As a Principal Engineer in the Hivemind Foundations (HMF) team, you will play a critical role in shaping and implementing the EdgeOS product. You will partner with the Director of the HMF team to define and execute on the team's vision. EdgeOS is a foundational, extensible set of developer-facing capabilities that allow development of autonomy systems for aircraft, marine and land surface vehicles, and human-machine interfaces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help define and own HMF team vision and roadmap
- Ensure EdgeOS is the world's best high performance, extensible, portable, certifiable middleware for autonomy applications
- Contribute to building, extending and documenting interfaces for internal and customer developer use as a software development kit (SDK)
- Partner with engineers, engineering managers, product and program managers to deliver EdgeOS capabilities
- Coach and mentor team members, including customers' engineers, on industry and HM best-practices
Required Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience developing large, production quality software systems
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with C++ (including modern C++17 and beyond)
- Experience with deeply embedded, high-performance systems, SDKs, and Linux environments
- Solid understanding of network protocols and networked applications
- Experience with Git, code management tools & other SDLC tools and practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in aerospace and/or robotics industries
- Knowledge of international interoperability standards in defense and autonomy domains
- Experience integrating embedded solutions with cloud services and applications
- Team leadership or technical project lead experience
This role offers a competitive salary range of $203,280 - $304,920 a year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees. The position is based in the San Diego Metro Area and requires on-site work.
